Bathroom demolition always looks quick from the outside. It usually involves some noise, broken tiles, and suddenly, the space is stripped completely. But that’s not the reality. It takes a bit more time and a lot more care.
At Small Space Demolition, one of the most common questions we get is simple: how long does it take to demo a bathroom?
In most cases, bathroom demolition takes between 1 and 3 days. That’s a realistic range. But the exact timing depends on the size of the bathroom, the materials used, and what we uncover along the way.
Based on our experience, smaller bathrooms with a basic layout take just one day for a demo. Yes, it’s that quick.
If the access is easy and there are no hidden issues, we can remove fixtures, strip tiles, and clear the space fairly quickly. Now, although it’s a smooth job, we don’t rush it. A clean, controlled demolition always sets things up better for the next stage.
This is where most projects fall. A standard bathroom usually takes a full day, sometimes stretching into a second. If you’re wondering how long to demo a bathroom, this is typically the timeframe we quote.
The biggest factor is tile removal. Wall tiles, floor tiles, and the adhesive underneath all take time to break down and remove properly. If the tiles were installed well, they’ll take longer to come off, which is something we see often.
There are also waterproofing layers and built-up materials behind the scenes. You don’t see them at first, but they always need to be dealt with before the space is ready.
In older homes, demolition can stretch out to 2–3 days.
That’s usually because of what’s hidden behind the walls or under the flooring. We often come across water damage, mould, or outdated plumbing that needs attention before moving forward. It’s not unusual — but it does add time to the job. We always take the time to deal with these issues properly, rather than rushing through them.
A good demo isn’t about just breaking things down. It’s about cleaning, too.
Removing debris is part of the job. Tight spaces or narrow apartments can slow things down. Additionally, the clean-up phase is done to get the site ready for the next step of the renovation.
